تقع محمية وادي الحجير الطبيعية في قضاء مرجعيون في محافظة النبطية، وقد تأسست في عام 2010. تجدر الاشارة الى ان هذه المحمية الطبيعية تمتد من نهر الليطاني في قرية قعقعية الجسر عند الجزء السفلي من مدينة النبطية، إلى بلدة عيترون في قضاء بنت جبيل. هذه المحمية الطبيعية، حتى قبل بضع سنوات، كانت محظورة على المدنيين والسياح على حد سواء لأنها كانت منطقة عسكرية خاصة. اما المنطقة المحيطة بالمحمية فهي غنية بالمطاعم والمنتزهات والمزارع والمنازل والمساجد. كما ويجب ذكر انه قد تم تشكيل لجنة لبنانية مؤلفة من فريق عمل لرعاية المحمية الطبيعية برئاسة السيد عبد الحميد الغازي.

طلب السيد الغازي دعم اليونيفيل في تنفيذ عدة تدابير تهدف إلى تعزيز حماية البيئة داخل المحمية اهما توفير حاويات خشبية كبيرة صديقة للبيئة، وتوفير لافتات صديقة للبيئة وتوفير جهاز تفريغ هواء يمكن وضعه على سيارة تابعة للمحمية.

في المقابل، قدمت قوات اليونيفيل المساعدة للمحمية من خلال هذا المشروع الذي شمل شراء وتقديم جهاز تفريغ الهواء ليتم تركيبه على سيارة، الى جانب 50 حاوية قمامة و 30 لوحة توجيهية، وبلغت الكلفة الإجمالية للمشروع 25000 دولار أمريكي.

وقد تم افتتاح المشروع من قبل قائد القطاع الشرقي لقوات اليونيفيل ، الجينرال خوسيه لويس سانشيز مارتينيز-فاليرو، بحضور رئيس بلدية القنطرة ورئيس لجنة محمية وادي الحجير الطبيعية عبد الحميد الغازي، وغيرهم من كبار الشخصيات المحلية وممثلين عن الجيش اللبناني.

وبالتنسيق الوثيق مع السلطات المحلية، تقدم اليونيفيل بانتظام المساعدة للسكان المحليين من خلال برامج تدريبية، ومشاريع سريعة الأثر، ومساعدات إنسانية للمساهمة في تحسين المجتمعات المحلية في منطقة عمليات قوات اليونيفيل في جنوب لبنان.

UNIFIL ASSISTS LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO PROTECT WADI HUJEIR NATURE RESERVE

The Hojeir Valley nature reserve is located in the Marjeyoun District in the Nabatieh Governorate. It was established in 2010. It stretches from the Litani River in the village of Qaaqaiyet Al-Jisr in the lower part of the city of Nabatieh, to the town of Aytaroun in the Bint Jbeil District. This natural reserve, until a few years ago, was off-limits to civilians and tourists alike as it was a designated military zone. The area around the reserve is scattered with park restaurants, farm sheds, houses, and mosques. A Lebanese committee has been set up along a work team to take care of the nature reserve, which is led by Mr. Abdul Hamid Al Ghazi.

Mr. Al Ghazi asked for UNIFIL’s support in implementing several measures aiming at the enhancement of environmental protection within the reserve namely the provision of large environmental-friendly wooden bins, the provision of environmental-friendly signage and the provision of a vacuum device that can be mounted on a vehicle pertaining to the reserve.

UNIFIL in return has provided assistance to the reserve by this project which consists of purchasing vacuum device to be mount on a vehicle, 50 garbage bins and 30 guiding boards which costed a total of 25.000 USD.

UNIFIL Sector East Commander, Major General Jose Luis Sanchez Martinez-Falero, inaugurated the project in the presence of Mayor of Al Qantarah and President of the Wadi Hujeir Nature Reserve Mr. Abdul Hamid Al Ghazi and other local dignitaries and LAF representatives.

In close coordination with local authorities, UNIFIL regularly provides assistance to the local population with training programmes, quick impact projects and humanitarian aid to contribute to the betterment of the local communities within UNIFIL’s area of operation in South Lebanon.
