BRILAT takes command of the East Sector in the United Nations operation in Lebanon

The Brigade "Galicia" VII (BRILAT) has become part of the multinational force that UN deploys in Lebanon under the name of UNIFIL.

21. Nov. ' 18.-Today, the Brigade "Galicia" VII, with headquarters in Pontevedra (Northen Spain) and traditionally known as BRILAT, has made the relay of the Spanish contingent in Lebanon, in an operation in which our troops-about 600 military-participate jointly with other countries under the auspices of the United Nations since 2006.

The Handover ceremony took place in the vicinity of Marjayoun, at Base Miguel de Cervantes, whose court of arms has been a privileged witness of the emotional act of transfer of authority between the components of the BRILAT and its predecessors of Brigade "Aragón I".

The ceremony was chaired by the Chief of Mission and Force Commander of UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force for Lebanon) Major General Stefano Del Col. Among other authorities, we have had the presence of the Ambassador of Spain in Lebanon H.E. Mr. José María Ferré de la Peña.

The until today Chief of the Spanish contingent, Brigadier General Martínez-Falero, in his farewell address he has included words for the multinational troops under his command, he has thanked the hospitality of the Lebanese people and authorities, and he has highlighted the feeling of pride which he has felt leading this mission.

On the other hand, the new head of the Spanish contingent, Brigadier General Antonio Romero, he wanted to make it clear with his first words the firm commitment of BRILAT with the mission in Lebanon, and its clear objective to continue performing at least the same level of achievements as his predecessor, continuing as well with the praiseworthy task of "winning hearts and minds for peace in the area."

UNIFIL's mission is to monitor the cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel and to assist the Lebanese Army in the South of the country along the separation between the two states (the so-called Blue Line).

The bulk of the Spanish contingent of the operation is stationed at Base Miguel de Cervantes, where the headquarters of UNIFIL Sector East is placed.

UNIFIL forces carry out patrols both on foot and with vehicles to permanently monitor the line of separation between Lebanon and Israel.

Exactly six months ago, I took over the command of UNIFIL Sector East in a ceremony very similar to the one we are celebrating here today. And during this period, all members of the Sector East have had the great honor of serving their respective countries, under the United Nations flag, in compliance with the provisions of the UN Security Council Resolutions 1701, 2373 and the new 2433 to ensure the peace and stability in this wonderful part of Lebanon.

• منذ ستة أشهرت توّليت قيادة القطاع الشرقي في حفل شبيه بحفل اليوم وخلال هذه الفترة كان لجميع افراد القطاع الشرقي شرف خدمة بلادهم تحت مظلة الأمم المتحدة وفقاً لأحكام قرارات مجلس الامن رقم 1701 و 2373 والقرار الجديد رقم 2433 للحفاظ على السلام والاستقرار في هذا الجزء الجميل من لبنان.

Here, we have strongly contributed to the stability of the area putting our effort in the BL, but we have also improved some services, encouraged education, enhanced environmental protection or launched some small projects and everything, in close coordination and cooperation with Lebanese population.

• لقد ساهمنا بشكل قوي بالحفاظ على الاستقرار في المنطقة واضعين جهدنا عند الخط الأزرق لكننا أيضا ساهمنا بتحسين بعض الخدمات وتشجيع التعليم وحماية البيئة كما نفذنا بعض المشاريع الصغيرة وكل ذلك بالتعاون الوثيق مع الجيش اللبناني.

We can be all proud of the work carried out, but our work would have been impossible without the hospitality and affection of our Lebanese friends, without the permanent cooperation and disposition of all local authorities, and without the friendship and priceless support of our brothers in arms the Lebanese armed forces. We will never be able to return to Lebanon the affection we are bringing with us to our countries.

• نحن فخورون بالعمل الذي قمنا به الا انه لولا محبة واستضافة اصدقائنا اللبنانيين وتعاون السلطات المحلية وصداقة ودعم اخوتنا في الجيش اللبناني لما أمكن ذلك. لن نستطيع ابداً ردّ هذه المحبة التي نأخذها معنا الى بلادنا.

By handing over the leadership of the Sector, I would like to seize this opportunity to congratulate all the peacekeepers who have been under my command, especially those from Spain, El Salvador, Serbia, Brasil, India, Indonesia, Nepal and Kazahjstan, by the excellent work they carried out. Congratulations! You all can be very proud for a job truly well done.

I would like to extend my most heartfelt thanks to the FC Major General Stefano del Col for his leadership and all UNIFIL HQ for its permanent support, to the Lebanese Armed Forces for their friendship, to the civil and religious authorities for their usual friendly collaboration and to all those who are among us for their assistance and care.

I cannot end my words without paying an emotional tribute to all those peacekeepers who lost their lives in the service of international peace and security. All of you will always remain in our hearts and thoughts.

Just a few words to express the great enthusiasm and determination with which we begin the mission entrusted by the United Nations in Lebanon.

• اسمحوا لي أن أعبّر بإيجاز باسم افراد الكتيبة التي تبدأ اليوم مَهمَتها المُوكلة اليها من قبل الأمم المتحدة في لبنان عن سعادتنا الكبيرة لتولي المهمة.

I would like to thank the Force Commander, General Stefano Del Col, and all the authorities for their presence, which expresses the commitment of all to reach a permanent peace in this wonderful land.

• اشكر حضور رئيس بعثة اليونيفيل وقائدها العام الجنرال ستيفانو ديل كول وجميع السلطات المحلية لما له من دلالة على التزامهم جميعاً بتحقيق السلام الدائم في هذه الأرض الرائعة.

• We are fully aware of the important responsibility we have just tackled and that the activity will be intense, but with the collaboration of all the components / contingents that make up Sector East, we are sure we will continue promoting stability in the area and that the twelve year period of peace, in which UNIFIL has been deployed in the South of the Litani River, continues indefinitely.

• نحن نعي بأنه تقع على عاتقنا مسؤولية كبيرة، كما ندرك كثافة العمل الذي ينتظرنا إلاّ أنه بتعاون جميع أفراد القطاع الشرقي سوف نستمر بالحفاظ على الاستقرار في المنطقة والسلام الذي دام لمدة اثني عشر عاماً أثناء فترة انتشار قوات اليونيفيل في جنوب نهر الليطاني كما أننا على يقين بأنه سوف يستمر كذلك.

With impartiality, determination, proactivity and above all with an absolute collaboration with the Lebanese Army, local authorities and civilian population, we hope to contribute effectively to achieve the long-awaited peace.

• نتمنى أن نساهم بشكل فعّال من خلال التزام الحيادية والعزم وروح المبادرة والتعاون الوثيق مع الجيش اللبناني والسلطات المحلية والأهالي في تحقيق السلام.

Our work will be tough and demanding, but I trust the professionalism of the United Nations’ soldiers, regardless of their nationality.

• أنا أعي بأن العمل معقّد ومتطلب لكنني اثق بمهنية جنود حفظ السلام بغض النظر عن جنسيّتهم.

Sir, I want to express our total commitment to the mandate of the United Nations and my readiness to collaborate with Sector West, the rest of UNIFIL Units and other United Nations’ missions that operate in the area.

• أود أن أعبر لكم سيادة الجنرال عن التزامي القوي بمَهمة الأمم المتحدة واستعدادي للتعاون مع القطاع الغربي وبقية الوحدات والكتائب الأخرى العاملة في اليونيفيل كما أُشيد بالعمل الرائع التي قامت به الكتيبة السابقة تحت امرة الجنرال مارتينث فاليرو وأشكرهم على التسهيلات التي قدّموها لنا للاستمرارية ومتابعة المَهَمَة بشكلٍ ناجح

I would also like to remark the excellent work developed by the previous contingent, led by General Martínez-Falero. We are deeply grateful for making us easier the takeover process we have just finished, since it assures the continuity between both contingents.

• وأخيرا أوجّه تحية خاصة للسلطات اللبنانية التي نتمنى أن نحافظ معها على علاقة ممتازة خلال الأشهر الستة القادمة.

Finally, a special greeting to the Lebanese authorities, with whom I look forward to maintaining a very good relationship for the next six months.

المهمّة

ان الكتيبة "بريلات" (BRILAT)هي وحدة كبيرة مختصّة للعمل في أراضٍ وعرة ومناخ متنوّع، وفي اماكن حيث تصل قيمة المقاتل وتدريبه إلى الكمال.

تم تنظيمها وتجهيزها وتدريبها لتكون مستعدة للعمل هناك وفي فترة زمنية قصيرة حيث متطلبات الدفاع الوطني تحتاج ذلك؛ من خلال استخدام أي وسيلة نقل.

لديها قدرات الدفاع الجوي، قتال المدرّعات، وقوة النيران، وقدرات الاستقلالية اللوجستية، والتي تجعل من الممكن استخدامها في جميع أنواع العمليات التقليدية، الهجومية والدفاعية على حدّ سواء، بشكل مستقل أو ضمن قوة ذات طابع وطني أو متعدّد الجنسيات.

تم تجهيز هذه الكتيبة بأحدث الأسلحة والمركبات والمعدات.

التقاليد

إن أفواج المشاة التي تدخل ضمن إطار الكتيبة BRILAT هم ورثة وأمناء على تقاليد احدى أقدم وحدات الجيش الإسباني:

• إن فوج المشاة "الامير" رقم ثلاثة، ذات لقب "الجريء".

يتضمّن اليوم كتيبتين من المشاة الخفيفة الا وهما: كتيبة "سان كيتين" I/3 وكتيبة "توليدو" II/3.

• فوج المشاة الخفيفة "إيزابيل الكاتوليكية" رقم تسعة وعشرون.

يتضمن اليوم كتيبة واحدة من المشاة وهي كتيبة سامورا III/29.

• فوج الخيّالة "فارنيسيو" ١٢.

وهو يتضمن فرقة واحدة من الخيّالة: فرقة الخيّالة الخفيفة "سانتياغو" VII.

تُعتبر بقية الوحدات التي تتألّف منها الكتيبة، كوحدات دعم القتال ووحدات الدعم اللوجستي، هي على غرار أفواجها، ورثة للوحدات القديمة في الجيش الاسباني:

• كتيبة الهندسة VII.

• الفرقة الوجستية في BRILAT.

• فرقة من القيادة العامّة في BRILAT.

• فرقة المدفعية المنقولة جوّاً GACA VII.

هذه التقاليد ذات الجذور العميقة، الموحّدة بالروح ، التي وضعها الرجال والنساء الذين مروا عبر هذه الكتيبة على مر السنين؛ تتميز بشكل خاص بالعمل في صمت، بدون لفت الانظار وبدون التذمّر من الظروف القاسية التي يعانون منها أحيانا؛ مما يجعل جندي كتيبة "غاليسيا" VII-BRILAT أن يتّخذ له شعاراً ما يلي:

"من الماضي شرف، من الحاضر فخر".

الأنشطة الرئيسية:

يتم تدريب كتيبة "غاليسيا"VII-BRILAT ليتم نشرها حيثما تدعو الضرورة للدفاع عن المصالح الوطنية، تنفيذاً للمهام المسندة إليه.

إن خطة توجيه وتدريب كتيبة BRILAT تشمل جميع التدريبات المعتادة لأي وحدة كبيرة. يسمح هذا التدريب باستخدام هذه الكتيبة كقوّة سيطرة ذات جهوزية عالية، مما يجعلها قوة استجابة أولى داخل القوات الخفيفة. تفرض كل هذه التدريبات على وحدات كتيبة BRILAT أن يكونوا في الميدان حوالي مئة يوم كل عام.

في مجال آخر، وضمن الهياكلية الدفاعية المتعددة الجنسيات التي تشارك فيها إسبانيا، شاركت هذه الوحدة الكبيرة وتشارك في تدريبات مختلفة تهدف إلى تحسين مستوى العمل المشترك مع وحدات دول التحالف:

 تمارين العمليات الجوية والاعتداء الجوي، التي كانت هذه الوحدة الكبرى رائدة فيها.

 تمارين الناتو / قوة العمليات الأوروبية السريعة / اتحاد اوروبا الغربية.

 تمارين أخرى وأنشطة ثنائية مع جيوش أخرى. ومن بين هذه الأنشطة الثنائية في مركز التدريب للمناطق الحضرية في مارنهويزن (هولندا) ومع الجيش البرتغالي في تمرين القوس (SAGITARIO).

كل هذه التمارين ، إلى جانب البعثات الدولية التي شاركت هذه الكتيبة فيها ، قد منحت كتيبة BRILAT مجموعة واسعة من الخبرات في العمل المشترك والقدرات على العمل في الأطر المتعددة الجنسيات، ومما يساهم في جعلها من الوحدات الكبيرة وذات قدرات سيطرة حقيقية.

البعثات الدولية

في عام 1995 ، بدأت BRILAT تجربتها في المشاركة في البعثات الدولية لحفظ السلام. وفي إطار الأمم المتحدة وحلف الأطلسي ، وقد قانت الكتيبة بتأديت جميع البعثات التي نفذت حتى الآن بنجاح وحرفية. شاركت وحدات مختلفة من هذه الكتيبة في البعثات الدولية التالية:

وتجدر الإشارة بخاصة إلى المهمات المختلفة التي تم تكريم كتيبة BRILAT لإنجازها، ومعظمها تأتي في إطار مشاركتها في البعثات الدولية:

• ميداليات ذهبية في Xunta de Galicia ومدينة سانتياغو دي كومبوستيلا.

• 1995: الميدالية الذهبية لإمارة أستورياس ومجلس مدينة أوفييدو.

• 1996: الميداليات الذهبية لمدينة ومحافظة بروفينسيا Provincia والميدالية الذهبية للمدينة ورابطة الشرف للمقاطعة والميدالية الذهبية الجماعية للصليب الأحمر الإسباني وجائزة "Lucense of the Year".

• 1999: جائزة "Voz a la Solidaridad".

• 2011: الميدالية الذهبية للمدينة بروفينسيا Provincia .

• 2013: وسام سانتياغو ، "شارة أصدقاء الطريق البرتغالي في سانتياغو".

• 2014: فئة ذهبية مع مرتبة الشرف.

• "وسام الذهب من منظمي طريق سانتياغو Camino de Santiago" وسلم جماعي ، و "وسام الاستحقاق المدني".

• 2017: ميدالية الاعتراف بكارثة البرستيجي "صليب الخدمات المتميزة Cross of the Distinguished Services".
