أقام حفظة السلام في الكتيبة الإسبانية التابعة لليونيفيل احتفالاً تكريمياً لتضحية شهدائهم العظيمة الذين سقطوا اثناء تأديتهم الواجب. وقد قام بالتكريم قائد القطاع الشرقي في اليونيفيل الجنرال ماركوس ياغو نافارو عند النصب التذكاري في الخيام، الذي أنشئ في مكان الهجوم كعلامة امتنان لتضحية الشهداء. كما وأقيم العرض الاحتفالي في قاعدة ميغيل دي سرفانتس UNP 7-2 ، في جنوب لبنان.

ترأس قائد أركان اليونيفيل العميد فريدريك بوشيه حفل تكريم الجنود الذين استشهدوا اثناء تأديتهم الواجب في 24 حزيران 2007، بحضورالنائب أنور الخليل، رئيس بلدية ابل السقي سميح البقاعي، ضباط من الجيش اللبناني، قادة الوحدات في اليونيفيل والسلطات الدينية والمحلية.

كما كان حاضراً العميد سايز روكانديو، قائد لواء المظليبن في الكتيبة الاسبانية، الذي تكبدت وحدته خسائر في هذا الحادث. وقع الحادث المميت أثناء قيام جنود حفظ السلام بمهمة روتينية في محلة الدردارة، حيث تم استهداف الدورية بسيارة مفخخة ، مما أسفر عن مقتل جميع افراد الدورية.

أكثر من 315 جندياً من حفظة السلام التابعين لقوات اليونيفيل فقدوا أرواحهم أثناء تأديتهم واجب حفظ السلام في جنوب لبنان منذ إنشاء اليونيفيل عام 1978. كما وتجدر الإشارة الى انه ومنذ عام 2006، استشهد 13 جندياً من الكتيبة الإسبانية التابعة لقوات اليونيفيل أثناء قيامهم في مهمة حفظ السلام و ذلك من أجل الحفاظ على السلام والاستقرار في جنوب لبنان.

ACT OF HOMAGE TO FALLEN PEACEKEEPERS

1. UNIFIL Spanish Peacekeepers held a memorial ceremony to pay tribute in honor of supreme sacrifice of fallen peacekeepers in the mission. The tribute was paid by UNIFIL Sector East Commander Brigadier General Marcos Llago Navarro at monolith memorial, in El Khiam, raised at the site of the attack as a sign of gratitude to the deceased. The ceremonial parade was held at Miguel de Cervantes Base UNP 7-2, in south Lebanon.

2. UNIFIL’s Chief of Staff Brigadier General Frederic Boucher led the ceremony to honour Fallen peacekeepers, who died in the line of duty on 24 June 2007. He was joined by Member of parliament Anwar al Khalil, Mayor of Ebel el Saqi Samih al Bikall, representatives of the Lebanese Armed Force (LAF), UNIFIL contingent commanders, religious authorities and local residents.

3. Brigadier General Saez Rocandio, Commander of Spanish Paratrooper brigade was also present, whose unit had suffered the casualties in the same incident. The fatal incident took place when these peacekeepers were performing a routine mission in the village of Sahel al Derdara. A bomb hidden in a vehicle was activated when a UNIFIL patrol vehicle was passing through the area, resulting in the deaths.

4. More than 315 UNIFIL peacekeepers have lost their lives while serving the cause of peace in southern Lebanon since UNIFIL establishment in 1978. Since 2006, Total 13 Spanish peacekeepers have died while serving with UNIFIL to maintain peace and stability in the south Lebanon.
